Carleton Nursery strongly believes that 'Children are our focus, children are our future'.  We offer all our children a broad balanced, child centred curriculum based on Curriculum for Excellence.  We promote independance, develop children's interests and encourage children to reach their full potential according to their stage of development.

Carleton Nursery, in the Woodside area of Glenrothes, provides places for both local children and from Star, Coaltown and Milton of Balgonie.   We offer places to all eligible children in the three to five age group who live in the local area and we are also able to offer places to children to the wider catchment area.  Within the nursery are three large pre-school play rooms, each with open access to a well resourced outdoor play area. The outdoor area is accessible all year round and we supply clothing and footware to accomodate varying weather conditions.

We also have a large room where we accommodate our children under the age of 3.  Our youngest children are allocated a nursery place where a priority has been identified and assessed by professionals from the Education Service, Social Work Service, Health Service or by Forth Child Development Centre.  The under 3 area also accomodates a resource room, a music area, a library and a welcoming Parents' Area.

Outdoor Area

Carleton Nursery has a beautiful garden providing space for play and also many opportunities to observe changes in weather and seasons and  to study wildlife. All rooms overlook and have direct entry into the garden so it is available at all times. We also make weekly visits to Falkland where the children enjoy the challenge of a forest experience.  We are a very inclusive nursery with staff who are skilled in working with children with additional support needs.  We enjoy the company of Forth Child Development Centre, housed in the top end of our building.  This allows us the opportunity to work jointly with them and to help children to make positive transitions into mainstream.  We have developed excellent relationships with visiting professionals and work in partnership to enable us to help children reach their maximum potential.

On starting nursery, we will have an identified Early Years Officer as his/her 'special person'. Your child's key worker will be responsible for gathering information on your child's development and learning and will keep you informed of their progress.

We believe in working in partnership with parents to help children to make as much progress as possible in all areas of learning during their time with us.

The nursery has strong links with the local primary schools as well as the local community. We actively encourage and welcome parents' involvement in a variety of formal and informal ways.

Parental Involvement

Parents are welcome to spend time in nursery rooms and to help on outings. We have twice weekly stay and share days, where parents can sign up to stay and play with the children in the room. There are also many social events, i.e. concerts, open days, and a fun day. There are also a range of parenting programmes and classes such as Peep, Mellow Parenting, Incredible Years, Baby Massage, Cooking Classes, Messy Play,  Bookbug, Bumps to Baby Steps to name but a few.

We are always pleased to meet parents, show you around the nursery and provide further information.  Please feel free to visit and meet us.
