Welcome to the website for Kirkcaldy West Primary School and Early Learning Centre, where we hope to provide you with an overview of the life and work of our school.   In addition to this website, we have a Kirkcaldy West Twitter account https://twitter.com/kirkcaldywestps and Kirkcaldy West Facebook page https://en-gb.facebook.com/KirkcaldyWestPS/ . Please like and follow us on both!  We also have a very active "Kirkcaldy West Parent Support Group (formally known as PTA and Pupil Voice) and you can find their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/groups/kirkcaldywestparents/.  All  are excellent sources of additional information, photographs and videos of our school.

Our school officially opened in 1876 and is a single storey, stone built, listed building. There have been many additions throughout the years.  We have twelve classrooms within the main building and a further six in hutted accommodation. We take pride in our school and grounds.  The school is situated within a built up, well established residential area of Kirkcaldy.  Like many Victorian built schools in town centre settings, we have no grassy areas or playing fields.  Our ELC outdoor spaces benefit from soft pore surfacing with areas for play opportunities and growing.  Our ELC pupils enjoy forest and beach learning.  We make good use of our playground space and have play zones, quiet areas and structured play equipment such as agility cube/trim trail and contextualised play structures to enhance the playground experience for all.  We have provided space for planting and outdoor learning.   We also have a small garden area hidden away in our back playground.  Our Primary 6 and 7 pupils look after areas of Beverdige Park and Kirkcaldy Beach as part of their John Muir Award work.

We enjoy a large and mixed catchment area and for Session 19/20 we have a rolling pupil roll of around 500 primary pupils plus capacity for 126 children in our Early Learning Centre.   We have 18 classes in P1 - 7 and offer a range of nursery placements for 3 and 4 year olds.  We almost always operate at or close to capacity across the primary classes.  You can check if our school is your child's catchment school by following this link https://www.fifedirect.org/catchmentchecker .  You will find information and guidance here also on making a placing request to Kirkcaldy West.
