St. John’s RC Primary School was established in 1919 to serve the parishes of Rosyth and Inverkeithing. It was situated at Rosyth Crossroads and shared a site with the Catholic Church of St John and St Columba. While the church remains there to this day, a new, modern, purpose-built school was opened in Heath Road in 1988 and now serves a wider catchment area including Limekilns, Rosyth, Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay, Aberdour and the Dunfermline eastern expansion of Pitreavie Castle and Masterton. Our new school celebrated its 25thAnniversary with a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Stephen Robson in October 2013.

The school enjoys the benefits of modern facilities organised around 2 open plan teaching wings with 3 internal courtyards, which lend a pleasing and spacious aspect to the teaching areas. There is a large Gym and Dining Hall equipped to cater for all P.E, Drama and Assembly activities. Changing facilities with showers are adjacent to the main Hall. The school library  provides quality up-to-date reference and fiction reading materials.

Our classrooms have excellent learning and teaching resources incorporating interactive whiteboards and wireless facilities in each teaching area. In addition, the ICT suite is well equipped with laptops and netbooks.

We create a positive learning ethos within a well-structured, stimulating, secure and welcoming environment, where pupils, staff and parents are valued and have a sense of pride in the school and where visitors are welcomed and links with the community promoted. We aim to ensure that each child develops intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually and morally by providing a challenging and appropriate curriculum for our children, which will enable them to play an active role in society now and in the future.

In P7 the children are given the opportunity to participate in a residential outdoor activity week. This is a Cluster event and prepares the children well for their transition to St Columba’s High School in Dunfermline where they will begin their secondary education. Our extensive extracurricular programme throughout the year includes rugby, badminton, football, hip hop dancing, karate, ifit and athletics.

Our Parent Council and Pupil Voice groups work very well to enhance the pupils’ experiences at St. John’s. In addition we have been recognised with Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Level 1 status as well as being Fairtrade Active 2015 and an Engineering School 2015. Our many charity events promoted through our Gospel Values have recently raised funds to support Macmillan Cancer Support, Rosyth Foodbank, SCIAF and Poppy Scotland.
